Prices of Chicken and Spices Rise Again Ahead of Eid

With Eid approaching, prices of broiler, Sonali, and local chickens have increased in the markets, along with a hike in spice prices. Consumers have also reported rising costs of other essential commodities.

At Karwan Bazar on Friday, broiler chicken was selling at Tk 210-220 per kg, while Sonali chicken was priced at Tk 310-330 per kg. Traders said broiler prices have risen by Tk 30-40 per kg and Sonali by Tk 30 per kg in the past week. Just two weeks ago, broiler chicken was selling at Tk 180-200 per kg and Sonali at Tk 270-290 per kg. Meanwhile, local chicken is now being sold at Tk 650-680 per kg, up from Tk 600-630 per kg.

Ismail Hossain, a poultry vendor at Town Hall Market, said, “Demand has increased ahead of Eid, leading to higher prices. Selling Sonali chicken at Tk 310 per kg gives us a profit of Tk 20. Some sellers are charging even more.”

Market visits revealed that prices of fish, including shrimp, rui, and ayer, have also risen. Beef is currently selling at Tk 750-780 per kg.

Consumers noted a slight increase in spice prices, particularly cinnamon and black pepper.

With Eid around the corner, fish markets are bustling with buyers. Prices of rui, katla, and pangas fish have risen by Tk 20-50 per kg. Mohammadpur resident Aziz said, “Compared to a few weeks ago, shrimp, rui, and ayer fish seem more expensive. Prices of other fish have also gone up slightly.”
