Disabled woman raped and becomes pregnant in Tangail, BNP’s secretary general arrested

A 19-year-old woman with speech and hearing impairment in Kalihati Upazila of Tangail has allegedly been raped and is six months pregnant.

In this incident, RAB has arrested a senior BNP leader named Ismail Hossain (55). He is the general secretary of BNP’s ward 2 of Narandia Union in the upazila.

He was arrested from Dubail area of ​​Delduar upazila yesterday afternoon based on a secret information. Major Kausar Badhon, company commander of RAB-14, CPC-3, confirmed this information at a press conference around 8 pm.

The arrested Ismail Hossain is the son of Abdul Hamid of Narandia Union in Kalihati Upazila. He went into hiding after the news of the rape came to light.

RAB said the victim’s father filed a rape case at Kalihati Police Station on October 9.

According to the case report, Ismail Hossain raped the young woman multiple times in March this year by intimidating her. Since the young woman was speech and hearing impaired, she could not tell anyone at that time. Later, the family came to know about the pregnancy through physical changes. The young woman then wrote and narrated the entire incident to her family and people in the area.

The victim’s family said their daughter had passed SSC and had dreams of continuing her education. But after this incident, her life has completely changed. They demanded a fair trial in the incident.

Kalihati Police Station OC Mahbubur Rahman said that the victim’s medical examination has already been completed and her statement has been recorded in court. The police are also monitoring the safety of the young woman and her family.

Arrested Ismail Hossain has been sent to prison through legal process.
