“Tarque Rahman Is Our Nazrul”: Chief Whip Says on the Rebel Poet’s Death Anniversary

Comparing Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) acting chairman Tarique Rahman with Kazi Nazrul, Chief Whip of the National Assembly Nurul Islam Moni said, “Tarique Rahman is providing the leadership needed against injustice and injustice in today’s Bangladesh. He is our Nazrul.”

He made these remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion organized by the Bangladesh Nationalist Cultural Party at the Akram Khan Hall of the National Press Club on Monday, August 24.

The meeting was held to mark the 50th death anniversary of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.

The Chief Whip said in his speech that the national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam was a symbol of protest against injustice, injustice, exploitation and subjugation. He is also a poet of love, humanity and secular consciousness. Nazrul is not born in every era, but he lives among the people through his creations and ideals.

Referring to the country’s past political situation, he said, “People have long been victims of human rights violations such as torture, imprisonment, disappearances, and mirror houses. Tarique Rahman has led the way on the streets and by the side of the people even in difficult times to establish the rights of the people against these injustices.”

The Chief Whip also mentioned that it was not possible to properly evaluate Nazrul during his lifetime. Therefore, he called for not only formally remembering him but also incorporating his ideals and humanitarian spirit in the conduct of life.

Talking about the country’s current economic, social and political crisis, he said that long-standing problems cannot be solved overnight. Just as Bangladesh overcame the crisis under the leadership of martyred President Ziaur Rahman, the people will have to work patiently and unitedly to overcome the current crisis.

Member of Parliament Muhammad Abdul Malik spoke as a special guest and Member of Parliament Khairul Kabir Khokon spoke as the keynote speaker at the discussion meeting chaired by Humayun Kabir Bepari, President of the Bangladesh Nationalist Cultural Party.

Professor Abdul Latif Masum and playwright Babul Ahmed also spoke at the meeting. Leaders of various cultural organizations and media personnel were present at the event.
