‘Police Scripted the Story Well, but People Didn’t Buy It,’ Civil Society Says Over Four Deaths in Rangpur’s Ganapati Family

Prominent citizens of the district are alleging that the arrest of two accused in the brutal murder of four people, including recently retired teacher Ganapati Chakraborty, his wife Pritilata, and their two children in Rangpur city’s Machuapara neighborhood, is a scripted drama by the police.

On Monday, August 24th, around 12 noon, former teachers and students of Rangpur District School, including ordinary students, were seen protesting by blocking the main road of Rangpur city in protest of this incident.

At the same time, they also gave an ultimatum to bring Rangpur city to a standstill if the real mystery is not revealed and those involved in the murder are not arrested within the next 3 days.

The district’s Mahila Parishad and Citizens Committee have formed a human chain and protested over the same allegation.

They claim that the bodies of school teacher Ganapati Chakraborty and his family were recovered on Saturday night. To cover up the real incident, two young men were shown arrested within a few hours and it was said that the murder was caused by preventing them from consuming Yaba, all of this is a drama orchestrated by the police.

Earlier, current and former teacher students took out a protest march from the district school and the procession traveled through various streets of the city, forming a human chain and protesting in front of the school. During this time, all types of traffic on both sides of the road was stopped.

Former teacher of Rangpur District School Shafiar Rahman, former student cultural activist Dollar and others spoke at the event.

Former teacher Shafiar Rahman said at the rally that Ganapati Chakraborty, a recently retired teacher of Rangpur District School, his only son Priyam Chakraborty, a fifth-grade student of Rangpur District School, his mother Pritilata Chakraborty, and a postgraduate student, Candidate Chakraborty, were brutally murdered. Their bodies lay in the house for two days. Two days later, the police recovered the bodies of four people on Saturday night. Then suddenly I heard that they had arrested the two main accused in the murder, Mughd and Siddharth.

Police Commissioner Abdul Mabud said at a press conference on Sunday that the killers allegedly went to the roof of the house of the slain school teacher Ganapati on Thursday night and strangled him to death after he stopped them from consuming Yaba. Even a madman would not believe such a police story that 2 drug addicts killed 4 people in a row.

The police commissioner further said, the killers allegedly killed 4 people and bathed them in their house, took out dates and cucumbers from the fridge and ate them. After that, so that no one would find out, they mixed their two mobile phones with detergent in water and threw them away. They stayed in the house from Thursday night until Friday Jumma prayers. We do not believe this incident. The entire incident is fabricated. That is why we demand to identify the real killers and find out who is behind the incident.

Former student Shariful said at the rally, “We cannot accept the police commissioner’s press conference statement in any way.”

He said that after Ganapati Sir’s daughter was strangled to death, her eyes were gouged out and her jaw was broken. But the autopsy doctor said that her jaw was not broken and her eyes were not gouged out. So how can we believe the police?

Former student cultural activist Dollar said at the rally, “We do not believe the police commissioner’s statement that our respected sir and his 5th grade student killed 4 people, including 2 youths, for stopping them from consuming drugs. If the real incident is not revealed within 3 days, we will completely paralyze Rangpur city.”

Meanwhile, a human chain and protest program was held in front of the Rangpur Deputy Commissioner’s office under the initiative of the Rangpur District Women’s Council for the same demand.

Rumana Zaman, Rangpur district president of the Mahila Parishad, complained that the script of the story that the police have made about the murder of 4 people in the city is good, but the people of Rangpur have not bought the story at all. We do not believe what the police commissioner said at the press conference.

At the time, he also said, “It is not believable that two people killed four people in a few minutes. These things are true in a drama, not in reality.”

He demanded that the true facts be revealed quickly.

Meanwhile, the Rangpur Metropolitan Citizens Committee formed a human chain and protested in front of the Rangpur Press Club in the afternoon with the same demand.

At the rally, Advocate Palash Kanti Nag, member secretary of the Citizens’ Committee, said that it seems that there is an attempt to divert the incident of the brutal murder of former teacher Ganapati Chakraborty and his family members into a different category.

He demanded the formation of a judicial investigation committee into this sensational incident to uncover the real mystery.

At a press conference on Sunday, Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mohammad Abdul Mabud said that while the candidate, Chakraborty, daughter of school teacher Ganapati Chakraborty, was strangled, her jaw was broken and her eyes were gouged out.

Later, Rangpur Medical College’s autopsy doctor Dr. Bablu Kishore Biswas told reporters that the girl’s jaw and eyes were not removed. However, it initially seems that she was strangled to death. However, it is not possible to say the main cause of death until the forensic report comes. However, no signs of acid burns were found on the faces or bodies of the four people.
