Brazil’s coach fired after crushing defeat to Argentina

A dark chapter in Brazilian football history has ended. Following their humiliating 4-1 loss to Argentina in the World Cup qualifiers, the dismissal of Seleção coach Dorival Júnior seemed inevitable. The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) officially announced this decision in a statement.

Dorival Júnior, who took charge as Brazil’s coach in January last year, failed to deliver expected results. Under his leadership, the team managed only 7 wins, 7 draws and 2 losses in 16 matches, raising questions about his effectiveness. The embarrassing defeat against Argentina appeared to be the final nail in the coffin.

In their statement, CBF thanked Dorival and wished him well for the future while announcing the start of the process to appoint a new coach.

Dorival’s departure marks another example of instability in Brazil’s coaching position. Since Tite’s departure after the 2022 World Cup, interim coaches like Ramon Menezes and Fernando Diniz failed before Dorival also couldn’t bring stability to the team.

Now the question arises: Who will be Brazil’s next coach? According to Brazilian media, Carlo Ancelotti remains their top choice, though his contract with Real Madrid poses a major obstacle. Names like Jorge Jesus and Filipe Luís are also being discussed.

For Brazil, the most important task now is finding a competent coach who can guide the team properly and restore their lost glory.
