Jaishankar delivers Narendra Modi’s letter to Tarique Rahman

Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar handed over a personal letter from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Tarique Rahman.

The Indian foreign minister arrived in Dhaka on Wednesday to pay tribute to former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia. Later, he reached the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban to attend Khaleda Zia’s funeral.

There, he met Tarique Rahman, the acting chairman of BNP and son of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, and handed over a letter from Narendra Modi.

During his meeting with Tarique Rahman, S. Jaishankar expressed deep condolences on behalf of the government and people of India.

He said, “I believe that Begum Khaleda Zia’s philosophy and values ​​will guide the development of our partnership.”

The former prime minister died at 6 am on Tuesday (December 30) while undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital. The government has declared three days of state mourning from December 31 to January 2 following his death. During this time, the national flag is being flown at half-mast and a general holiday has been declared across the country on Wednesday.

Representatives from several South and Southeast Asian countries, including India and Pakistan, have also arrived in Dhaka to attend the funeral and burial of Begum Khaleda Zia, sources said.
