Concerns in Petrobangla report: Gas supply has decreased by 1 billion cubic feet in two years

Petrobangla’s latest daily gas and condensate production and distribution report shows a significant decline in the country’s gas supply. Gas supply decreased by about 1 billion cubic feet in July 2026 compared to April 2024.

According to the report of Petrobangla’s Production and Marketing Division, the total amount of gas production and supply for the period April 29-30, 2024 was 3,099 million cubic feet.

On the other hand, the latest report dated July 28-29, 2026, shows a Grand Total gas production of 2,118 million cubic feet (approx.), whereas analyzing the contribution of various companies (Bapex, IOC, RPGCL, etc.), a decrease in overall supply is noticeable.

According to the report, the cumulative impact of the reduction in daily gas supply over the past two years has been about 1 billion cubic feet, putting increasing pressure on power generation, industrial and domestic supplies.

The disparity in production capacity, especially between RPGCL (R-LNG) and other operators, has further complicated this crisis.

Experts say that it will be difficult to deal with this crisis without new exploration in gas fields, well drilling and increased imports. The concerned quarters have asked the Petrobangla authorities for a detailed explanation and plans on this matter.

This decline in the country’s energy sector has created new challenges for energy security. The government and relevant authorities are expected to take effective measures quickly.
