Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar met with BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, son of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, in Dhaka to pay his last respects. He handed over the Indian government’s condolence message to Tarique Rahman. Bangladesh’s Legal Adviser Asif Nazrul made several attempts to talk to Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar during the visit.
The live video showed Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar speaking to Tarique Rahman in a room of the Parliament after conveying his country’s condolence message. After the formalities were over, Bangladesh’s Legal Advisor Asif Nazrul tried to speak to him. However, when Jaishankar did not pay attention, he went straight to him and spoke in a rude manner. However, Jaishankar, in his natural manner, continued to exchange greetings with others by giving one or two answers.
Meanwhile, the BNP said, “Neighboring country India has sent a message of condolence expressing deep respect for the demise of Khaleda Zia. Today, Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at noon, Indian Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar handed over the condolence message to BNP Acting Chairman Mr. Tarique Rahman at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.”
The Indian Foreign Minister arrived in Dhaka on a special Indian Air Force flight around 11:30 am on Wednesday. He was welcomed by Foreign Ministry Secretary (Intergovernmental Organizations and Consular Affairs) M Farhad Hossain at the Bangladesh Air Force Base Bashar. Former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia died at 6 am on Tuesday while undergoing treatment at the capital’s Evercare Hospital. A three-day state mourning is underway in the country following her death, and a general holiday has been declared on Wednesday.
