ADC Saqlain ensured Parimoni’s nighttime security for a month straight

Former Additional Deputy Commissioner of the Intelligence Department (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Md. Golam Saqlayen is being compulsorily retired from service. The decision has been taken after the investigation proved his extramarital affair with actress Porimani. Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has already signed the summary of the notification to send the officer, who is currently serving as Additional Superintendent of Police, to retirement.

According to the Home Ministry’s documents and investigation report, the incident began in June 2021. At that time, Parimoni filed a case against businessman Nasir Uddin Mahmud at a club in Dhaka on charges of rape and attempted murder. Golam Saqlain was given the responsibility of investigating that case, and it is said that the two developed a close relationship based on the investigation.

After the matter came to light, a three-member investigation committee formed by the police department examined the call detail records and CCTV footage. It was found that in August 2021, Parimoni stayed at Saqlain’s official residence in Rajarbagh for a long time while his wife was out. In addition, Saqlain spent the night at the actress’s house several times in July-August of the same year. After reviewing the phone and messenger conversations between the two, the committee concluded that the relationship was not professional.

The ministry considers it damaging to the image of the government and the police for a married man and the guardian of a child to engage in such a relationship and use a government residence for this purpose. Saqlain was removed from the DB soon after the allegations were made.

After the investigation revealed the truth of the allegations, the Home Ministry sought the opinion of the Public Service Commission (PSC) on June 13. The decision to compulsory retirement was finalized only after receiving the opinion of the PSC. Ministry sources said that the summary signed by the Home Minister will now be sent from the Prime Minister’s Office to the President’s Office. A formal notification will be issued after receiving the President’s approval.

In this regard, the ministry’s additional secretary, Kazi Mohammad Saiful Islam, said that although the matter was discussed, he did not have any updated information, and only the relevant branch could provide details on the matter. On the other hand, Mohammad Mizanur Rahman Talukder, deputy secretary of the discipline branch, refused to comment on the matter.
