Worker beaten to death at arbitration meeting in Narayanganj: Main accused, NCP leader, and 2 arrested

RAB-11 has arrested two people, including Shoaib Rahman Soheb, the main accused in the murder case of hosiery industry worker Alamgir Hossain at the Narayanganj port and leader of the Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP).

They were arrested in a raid in the Godnail area of ​​Siddhirganj police station on Friday night, July 3.

The arrested are Shoaib Rahman Soheb (42), former joint coordinator of Bandar Upazila NCP and former leader of the anti-discrimination student movement. He is the son of Khalil Mia of Salehnagar area of ​​Bandar Upazila. The other accused is Md. Sumon (38), son of Bashir of Shahi Masjid area of ​​Bandar Upazila.

Their arrest was announced in a press release signed by RAB-11 Company Commander Md. Naeem Ul Haque on Saturday afternoon.

The press release said that on the evening of October 3, 2025, an arbitration meeting was organized under the leadership of Shoaib Rahman to resolve a money-related dispute at an auto-rickshaw garage in the Salehnagar area of ​​Bandar Police Station.

For being late for the arbitration meeting, Alamgir Hossain was arrested from his home by some people, including the accused Farhad.

During the meeting, Alamgir and his son Munna demanded the money they owed from another accused in the case, Md. Jewel, but Jewel refused to return the money.

At one point, Jewel started beating Alamgir. Later, he was taken outside the garage and beaten with local weapons, sticks, pipes and hammers, causing serious injuries.

Local people present at the scene rescued the seriously injured Alamgir and first took him to the Bandar Upazila Health Complex and later admitted him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for advanced treatment.

Alamgir Hossain died the next morning, October 4, while undergoing treatment there.

The deceased was Alamgir Hossain, son of the late Sohban Mia of Shahi Masjid area of ​​Bandar upazila.

In this incident, Kalpana Begum, the sister of the deceased, filed a murder case with Bandar Police Station. Shoaib Rahman Soheb has been named as the first accused in the case. In addition, Md. Sumon has been named as the 10th accused in the case.

RAB said that intelligence surveillance had been underway for a long time to arrest the accused in the case. Based on a secret tip-off, Shoaib Rahman and his associate Sumon were arrested in a raid in the Godnail area of ​​Siddhirganj police station on Friday night.

They were later handed over to the Bandar Police Station on Saturday morning.

It is worth noting that Shoaib Rahman collected nomination papers for the post of Member of Parliament from the National Citizens Party (NCP) in the 13th National Parliament election in the Narayanganj-5 constituency.

However, in the end, no NCP candidate was nominated for this seat; the seat was vacated to the Khilafat Majlis candidate as an alliance partner.

When asked about this, Narayanganj Metropolitan NCP convener Md. Shawkat Ali said, Shoaib Rahman is not currently in any committee of our party. His name was proposed when the Narayanganj Metropolitan NCP committee was formed. But he was not included in the committee because it was controversial. There were several allegations against him.

He claimed that he does not know who or what gave him the previous committee of Bandar Upazila NCP. At that time, Shoaib was in the NCP coordination committee. Later, he was not placed in any other committee. He has not been allowed to participate in any NCP activities for the last six months.

Regarding the collection of nomination papers from NCP, he further said, “Anyone can collect nomination papers from NCP in the National Assembly elections. In continuation of this, Shoaib also collected nomination papers.”

Apart from this, Shoaib collected nomination papers by presenting himself as an injured July fighter. However, he did not contest the election.

Asked whether any party action has been taken against him or will be taken in the future, Md. Shawkat Ali said, “I have learned about his arrest in a murder case. And he is not a member of the party now, nor is he in any of our committees. Therefore, there is no reason to take any party action against him.”
