The ongoing rumors have come true. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has removed Mehedi Hasan Miraz from the post of ODI captain. Liton Das has been given the responsibility until the 2027 World Cup. President Tamim Iqbal announced this news at a press conference in Mirpur on Wednesday.

Miraj has been leading the team since 2024, replacing Nazmul Hossain Shanto. Under him, the Tigers have won 10 matches, lost 13 and drawn 1 in 24 matches. His win rate of 43.75 per cent is the third-best among Bangladesh captains who have led at least 10 matches; only Mashrafe Bin Mortaza (58.13) and Shakib Al Hasan (44.26) are ahead of him.

Bangladesh lost seven of their ten matches under Miraj’s leadership abroad. Miraj’s form and leadership were questionable.

Liton, who took charge, has led the team as an acting captain at various times in the absence of the regular captains. In all, under his leadership, Bangladesh has played 7 matches, winning 3, losing 3 and leaving 1 match unresolved.
