Chhatra League Activist Killed in Political Rival’s Attack Over Land Dispute in Bagerhat

A young man named Ahad Ahmed Itu (24) was killed in an attack by his opponents over a land dispute in Rampal, Bagerhat. His father Sheikh Fariduzzaman was seriously injured in the incident.

The incident took place in the Islamabad area of ​​Banshtali Union of the upazila on Monday morning, September 21st.

The deceased, Ahad Ahmed, was the son of Sheikh Fariduzzaman of Islamabad village. Local sources said that Ahad was an active member of the Chhatra League.

Police and local sources said that Ahad’s family and his cousins ​​Baki Billah and Masum had a long-standing dispute over land boundaries. On Monday morning, the two sides clashed over the drainage of water along the disputed land boundary.

At one point, it is alleged that people supporting Baki Billah and Masum attacked Ahad and his father.

Ahad and his father were seriously injured in the attack. Locals rescued them and took them to the hospital, but Ahad died on the way. His seriously injured father has been admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.

A local source claims that the remaining accused in the attack, Baki Billah and Masum, are associated with BNP politics. However, the police have not yet confirmed their political identities and the involvement of any political dispute in the attack.

The initial police statement described the incident as an attack over a land dispute.

Rampal Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rajib Al Rashid said, “A man was killed and his father was seriously injured in an attack by cousins ​​over a land dispute. Police have inspected the scene. The body of the deceased is being sent to the Bagerhat 250-bed District Hospital morgue for autopsy.”

The OC also said that the victim’s family has not yet filed a written complaint. A case will be filed if a complaint is received. At the same time, the police have started working to arrest those involved in the attack.

Meanwhile, locals claim that the deceased Ahad was associated with Chhatra League politics and the accused are associated with BNP politics. Due to this, there is also a fear of political tension in the area over the incident.

However, the real reason for the killing and whether there was any political motive behind the attack remains to be confirmed through an investigation.

Police said that the process of identifying and arresting those involved in the incident and taking legal action is underway.
