Parag Jain, the head of India’s external intelligence agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), has arrived in Bangladesh as part of efforts to normalize and improve relations between the two countries. It is reported that he visited China before coming to Bangladesh.
A government source said that Parag Jain has arrived in Dhaka leading a four-member high-level delegation at the invitation of the relevant Bangladeshi authorities.
However, neither Bangladesh nor India has officially released any information about the visit of the Indian delegation.
The delegation members arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on an Air India flight on Sunday afternoon. Arrangements have been made for their stay at a hotel in Dhaka, the government source confirmed.
Along with Parag Jain, the delegation includes Ashwin Mukund Kotnis, Rahul Negi and Shaibal Roy Chowdhury.
Apart from serving as the Secretary of India’s external intelligence agency ‘RAW’, Parag Jain is also the Special Secretary of the Special Protection Group (SPG).
The RAW chief’s visit to Dhaka comes amid reports of various initiatives to normalize relations between the two countries amid the strained Bangladesh-India relations. The fact that he is coming to Bangladesh after his previous visit to China makes this visit even more significant.
However, nothing is officially known so far about the content of the discussions between Parag Jain and his delegation during their visit to Dhaka.
