Father and Daughter Killed in Sirajdikhan, Munshiganj, with Their Eyes Gouged Out

Golap Hossain, the father of six-year-old Toaba Akhter, who was seriously injured in the killing of her by gouging out her eyes in Sirajdikhan, Munshiganj, has also died.

Golap’s physical condition deteriorated while undergoing treatment at Abdullahpur Swadesh Hospital in Keraniganj, Dhaka, at around 12:30 pm today, Thursday, October 29.

He was later taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment, but died on the way.

Earlier, around 9 am on the same day, police recovered Toaba’s body from an abandoned land next to Molla Bricks in Ramakrishnadi village of Latbdi union in Sirajdikhan upazila.

Police and local sources said that Golap Hossain, a resident of Dosarpara village in Latbdi union, was working at a brick kiln in the Ramakrishnadi area around 5 pm on Wednesday, October 28.

Later, on their way home from meeting her father, Joynal Mia, Golap and her daughter were attacked. Golap was hacked to death with a sharp weapon, seriously injuring her. The child was killed by gouging out her eyes and dumped in an abandoned field next to a brick kiln.

Toabar’s grandmother said they believe the incident occurred due to a land dispute with a neighbor.

Sirajdikhan Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Alauddin said the incident may have happened due to a land dispute.

One person has been detained for questioning in the incident. Police are conducting operations to arrest others involved in the incident.
