The body of a garment worker named Abu Hasan has been recovered from a small canal in the Baraibari area of Safipur, Gazipur. He is a worker of Lease Fashion Garments in Safipur. His home is in Joypurhat district.

The workers alleged that BNP leaders and activists hacked Abu Hasan to death for participating in the ongoing labor movement. Eyewitnesses also claimed that there were marks of sharp weapons on his body.

However, the police are not treating the death as a murder. The officer-in-charge (OC) of the police station concerned has claimed that Abu Hasan died after drowning in the river while fishing with friends.

Police claim that the body of the garment worker has been recovered three hours after he went missing after drowning in the Turag River in Kaliakoir, Gazipur. A fire service diving team recovered the body during a drive in the river in the Baraibari area of Chapair Union of the upazila around 4:30 pm on Monday.

According to eyewitnesses, there were wounds on various parts of Abu Hassan’s body. They believe that these wounds may have been caused by a sharp object. They believe that if a person dies by drowning in a river, the body would not be in such a bloody state. This has raised doubts among the workers about the cause of his death.

The workers claim that Abu Hasan was targeted for participating in the movement. They have demanded a fair investigation into the allegations of his murder and the identification and prosecution of those involved.

Although the police said the cause of death was drowning, detailed information about the injuries on the body and the allegations of murder of the workers was not available.
