Stating that the law and order situation in the country has improved, but public expectations have not been met, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said, “People will speak about the improvement in law and order in the first 180 days of the government. However, it will take more time to fulfill public expectations.”
At the same time, he also rejected the concerns expressed by the United Nations in its report about the spread of militancy in Bangladesh and the activation of various cells of Al-Qaeda and ISIS.
He made this statement at the Secretariat after the meeting of the Judicial Service Pay Commission’s report review committee on Monday, August 17.
On the question of the expansion of the Al-Qaeda network in Bangladesh, the Home Minister said, “The UN report is based on speculation. Therefore, we are not taking any report based on speculation into account.”
He said, “The government is planning to build a land-based LNG terminal at the Matarbari deep seaport. Efforts are being made to store it for a specific period of time to solve the energy problem, considering future energy security.”
He also said, “Within the next few years, the country’s domestic gas demand will be met from domestic sources.”
