ISIS-Linked Asif Adnan on Dhaka University Stage: ‘Beyond Reach’ Because He Is a ‘BNP Leader’s Son’

A new controversy has arisen around a performance by Asif Adnan at the Amar Ekushey Hall of Dhaka University (DU). Questions have been raised about the performance of Asif Adnan, who was arrested in the past on charges of ISIS-related activities, at the university and the role of law enforcement agencies surrounding him.

Asif Adnan recently spoke at a discussion titled ‘AI, Transhumanism & Islam’ at the TV room of Amar Ekushey Hall. Questions have also been raised about the organization and approval process of the event.

Meanwhile, a CTTC official, who did not wish to be named, claimed that Asif Adnan cannot be arrested due to political influence. The official said, “Asif Adnan’s father is a BNP leader, so he cannot be arrested. He is one of the promoters of militancy in this country.”

However, the independent authenticity of the official’s statement could not be immediately verified. As a result, it cannot be considered an official statement from the CTTC.

Asif Adnan’s past also has allegations of involvement in militancy. Various news reports have mentioned that he was arrested in 2014 on charges of ISIS involvement. At that time, he was also accused of having contacts with militant organizations and trying to establish a Sharia-based state system in the country. However, there is no scope to claim that all of the allegations have been conclusively proven in court.

New questions have now been raised about his participation in a public event at one of the country’s leading higher education institutions, Dhaka University. There is ongoing discussion about how such an event was organized, especially after the allegations of his involvement in militancy raised against him in the past, and how aware the university administration was of the matter.

Meanwhile, various claims have been spread on social media regarding Asif Adnan’s political identity and family ties. Among these claims, it is necessary to independently verify and confirm his father’s political identity and affiliation with BNP.

In cases of serious allegations such as involvement in militancy or obtaining legal benefits through political influence, the official statement of the law enforcement agencies and the statement of the person concerned are important. Therefore, if there is a clear statement from the CTTC and the Dhaka University administration, the matter will be clearer.
