Pakistan’s Prime Minister Announces Match Against India

Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, who had announced that Pakistan would not play India in the T20 World Cup, has now made a U-turn and said that they will play the match in the interest of cricket.

Shahbaz Sharif posted on X (formerly Twitter), “In light of the results of multilateral discussions and the request of friendly countries, the Government of Pakistan is ordering the Pakistan national team to take the field against India.”

The Prime Minister added, ‘Furthermore, this decision has been taken with the aim of preserving the spirit of cricket and maintaining the continuity of this global game in all participating countries.’

The dramatic reversal of the decision to boycott the match comes after a frenetic weekend of talks. On Sunday, the heads of the International Cricket Council (ICC) and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) traveled to Lahore for talks with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

The clash between arch-rivals India and Pakistan is one of the most lucrative matches in cricket, bringing in millions of dollars in revenue from broadcasts, sponsorships and advertising.

The 20-team tournament was overshadowed by a bitter political situation. After Bangladesh refused to play in India, citing security concerns, they were replaced by Scotland. In protest, Pakistan refused to face co-hosts India in Group ‘A’.

But the only solution was to be patient. In the end, Pakistan, seeing their dark future, agreed to forget everything and play. Of course, they had no other choice.
