Tarique Rahman’s Meeting with Trump Is Not Happening: Humayun Kabir

There is no possibility of a bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, who is on a visit to the United States to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, and US President Donald Trump, said State Minister for Foreign Affairs-1 Humayun Kabir. He said that various meetings will be held on the sidelines of the UN session, prioritizing Bangladesh’s interests.

Responding to journalists’ questions, Humayun Kabir said, ‘The Prime Minister has come to attend the UN session on this visit.’

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman left Dhaka on September 21 to attend the UN General Assembly session. He is accompanied by his wife Zubaida Rahman. The Prime Minister will hold more than a dozen bilateral, multilateral and courtesy meetings during the visit.

The Prime Minister arrived at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York at 6:20 pm on Monday, September 21, US local time. She was welcomed at the airport by Bangladesh’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Irene Zubaida Khan and Bangladesh’s Ambassador to the United States Tarek Md. Ariful Islam.

Later, the Prime Minister was taken from the airport in a motorcade to the Hyatt Grand Central New York Hotel. She arrived at the hotel around 8 pm local time.

A section of expatriate Bangladeshis chanted slogans in front of the airport and hotel to express their excitement over the Prime Minister’s arrival in the United States.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to hold several meetings and engagements on various issues related to Bangladesh’s interests at this year’s session of the UN General Assembly. The State Minister for Foreign Affairs said that Bangladesh’s interests will be given importance in these meetings.
