Violence in Rohingya camps is increasing day by day: ARSA commander shot dead on his way to mosque

The bloody dominance of terrorist organizations has once again reared its head in the Ukhia Rohingya camp in Cox’s Bazar. This time, due to intense conflict and fighting between two terrorist groups, the powerful commander of the identified extremist organization Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA), Md. Zubair (34), lost his life in the gunfire of his opponent.

The shocking murder took place at around 3:30 am on Thursday, July 30, in H/29 block of Rohingya camp number 8-West, Ukhiya. The deceased, Zubair, is the son of Rahmat Ullah, a resident of the camp.

According to police sources, Zubair was heading towards the mosque from his house in Camp 8-West under Irani Pahar Police Camp in Ukhiya at midnight on Wednesday. As soon as he reached the house of a Rohingya named Ibrahim in H/29 Block, a group of armed terrorists who had been waiting in ambush surrounded him.

Before he knew it, the terrorists fired about 5 rounds at Zubair and quickly fled the scene.

The sound of gunfire in the middle of the night spread panic throughout the camp. When the gunfire stopped, local Rohingyas rescued Zubair, who was in a critical condition, and tried to take him to the MSF hospital in Camp 8 West. However, he died on the way due to excessive bleeding.

Confirming the killing, Additional DIG Mohammad Siraj Amin, commander of the Ukhiya 14 Armed Police Battalion (APBN), said, “Initial information has revealed that there has been internal conflict and grouping for area occupation between two terrorist organizations active in the Rohingya camp – ARSA and RSO. Zubair may have been targeted in this conflict.”

Immediately after the incident, a special team from Irani Pahar Police Camp quickly reached the spot and brought the situation under control. Currently, patrols have been intensified to maintain law and order in the camp. A special operation is underway to identify and arrest the killers involved in the incident, APBN said.
