6 firearms recovered from pond in Natore, suspected to be looted from police station

Police have recovered six firearms including four shotguns from Talabghat pond in Kandivitua area near Natore District Hospital.

The weapons were recovered on Friday afternoon, March 28. The seized arms include:
– 4 shotguns
– 1 double-barreled gun
– 1 airgun

Authorities suspect these weapons may have been looted during last year’s anti-government protests when militants attacked over 450 police stations across the country in August, killing officers and stealing arms and ammunition.

Additional Police Superintendent (Sadar Circle) Mahmuda Sharmin Nely confirmed that two boys fishing in the pond first discovered some weapons when their fishing hook got stuck in a blanket underwater. Upon inspection, they found an airgun and double-barreled gun wrapped in the blanket.

After police were informed, fire service divers conducted a search and recovered two more shotguns – two with stocks and two without.

Nely added that the pond will be completely drained starting tomorrow for further search operations, with police guards posted overnight. The shotguns are believed to be police-issued while the other weapons may belong to licensed civilians that were deposited at police stations.
