‘Fugitive’ BNP leader Rabi, accused in journalist Tamim murder case, reappears on talk shows

BNP central leader Sheikh Rabiul Alam (Rabi) went into hiding after the murder case of Deepto TV worker Tanjil Jahan Tamim. After being in hiding for a long time, he has become active again after the case was hushed up. Now he is regularly seen on various television talk shows.

Rabiul Alam was named as the third accused in the case report. The deceased’s family filed a murder case with Hatirjheel Police Station, naming 16 people as accused.

Police said that initial investigation found evidence of Rabiul’s direct involvement in the murder. A raid was then launched to arrest him, but he went into hiding.

However, in recent months, Rabiul Alam has been speaking publicly on various television channels. He has been seen making critical comments about the government on several talk shows on Somoy TV, RTV, and Ekattor TV.

The investigation agency in the case said that five accused have been arrested so far in the incident and a chargesheet has been submitted to the court. However, some, including Rabiul, are still absconding.

PBI officials said that it has become difficult to arrest him because of his influence.

The deceased, Tamim, was working in the broadcasting department of Deepto TV. The case alleges that he was beaten to death by a mob in the Hatirjheel area last year over a flat ownership and family dispute.

Legal experts say the participation of a fugitive accused named in the court’s chargesheet on a national television talk show calls into question the rule of law. The failure to arrest him despite his public appearance indicates negligence in investigation and law enforcement.
