Faisal, Detained in India, Barred From Leaving Bangladesh

A court has banned Faisal Karim Masud, the alleged main accused in the murder case of Inqilab Manch spokesperson Osman Hadi, and his wife Shaheda Parveen Samia from traveling abroad.

These restrictions were imposed on their departure due to allegations of corruption.

However, Faisal Karim is currently in jail in India on corruption charges.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md. Shahjahan Kabir approved the order on Monday, August 31, based on the application of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

ACC Public Relations Officer Akhtarul Islam confirmed this to the court.

Earlier, ACC Assistant Director Md. Saifur Rahman filed a formal application in the court seeking a ban on the couple leaving the country.

The application states that the ACC is investigating suspicious transactions worth around Tk 127 crore from the bank accounts of Faisal Karim and his affiliated institutions.

During the course of the investigation, the Commission learned from reliable sources that the individuals under investigation could flee the country at any time. Therefore, it is imperative to immediately impose a ban on their travel abroad in the interests of a fair and impartial investigation.

It is worth noting that on March 8, the West Bengal Police and the Special Task Force (STF) of India conducted a joint operation and arrested Faisal Karim from the Bangaon border area. Since then, he has been in Indian custody and is in jail.
