Although the middle and lower classes are attracted by advertising flashy services at nominal prices, in reality, a huge commercial profit lottery is being organized behind the scenes. The Ad-Din Foundation, which is funded by Akij Group, one of the country’s leading business groups, has been accused of political involvement from the beginning. There has been widespread criticism in political and social circles that this institution, which is controlled by Akij Group, secretly works as a big fund or donor for the political party Jamaat-e-Islami. There have been strong allegations that the huge money earned by using the ‘Islamic mind’ and ‘service-oriented’ image is used for Jamaat’s organizational activities and fund formation.

Cheap in advertising, ‘bloodsucking’ policy in terms of bills

Although the official rate chart of Ad-Din Hospital shows a specialist doctor’s ticket of 160-220 taka, admission fee of 1,300 taka and a caesarean package of 10,000-16,000 taka, the real ‘bloodsucking’ policy begins after entering the hospital. The affected patients complain that after admission, under the guise of low cost, unnecessary tests are set up every day, extra visits are made by deliberately changing doctors every day, and the final bill in the name of medicines and saline is skyrocketed, which is beyond the means of the common man. Conscious citizens believe that the non-profit label is being used only as a shield for tax evasion and funding for Jamaat.

Tragic death of 6 newborns due to AC outage and negligence of hospital authorities

The recent tragic and unnatural death of 6 newborns due to leakage of AC gas line and serious construction defects in the post-operative room of Moghbazar Ad-Din Medical College Hospital has proven this mismanagement 100 percent. The victim families claim that although an attempt was made to cover it up as a simple accident, it was specifically a case of negligence and murder due to negligence on the part of the hospital authorities. The hospital administration has issued a responsible statement on this issue. The hospital authorities claim, “It was a very unexpected mechanical fault. Our doctors tried their best to save the children. There was no negligence on the part of the hospital.” However, the family alleges that the children suffocated to death due to lack of oxygen due to the AC being turned off for a long time in the name of saving electricity bills and the gas leakage when it was turned on later.

Illegal bakery on hospital roof: Health Minister expresses anger

After this tragic incident, the Health Minister and concerned government officials paid a surprise visit to the hospital. During the inspection, a completely illegal and unauthorized commercial bread and biscuit factory (bakery) was found on the roof of a highly sensitive and sterile building like the hospital. The Health Minister expressed his deep anger at seeing such a risky factory on a medical building. After the inspection, the Health Minister told reporters in an angry voice, “I cannot imagine how a commercial bakery can operate on the roof of a hospital. On the one hand, newborns are dying due to lack of oxygen below, while on the other hand, toxic smoke from biscuit making is coming out of the hospital roof! Such commercial greed and extreme craziness will not be tolerated in any way. Ad-Din is playing with the lives of ordinary people in the name of non-profit service.”

Information suppression and attacks on journalists

The Ad-Din authorities did not hesitate to attack the media to hide the dark sides of their ‘bloodsucking’ business and Jamaat affiliation. Hospital cleaners and security guards ambushed and beat journalists who went to collect news about the deaths of newborns, which clearly demonstrated their evil attempts to hide information and suppress the truth.

Ad-Din in legal limbo: Criminal case

Ad-Din Hospital is now facing major legal and administrative pressure due to allegations of extreme irregularities and negligence. Based on a complaint filed by Habibur Rahman, the father of a deceased child, a criminal case has been filed against the hospital authorities at the Ramna Police Station in the capital on specific allegations of death due to negligence. The police have already sealed the hospital’s post-operative ward and started an investigation. In addition, legal notices have been sent to the Ministry of Health and Ad-Din by the Supreme Court lawyers, and a 3-member investigation committee formed by the Ministry of Health has already found evidence of serious defects in the hospital building and illegal factory operation. There has been intense anger and demand for exemplary punishment across the country against the reckless commercial behavior, donation to Jamaat and extreme negligence in medical treatment of this non-profit organization, which was established by Akij Group in the name of human service and religion.
