After Chhatra Dal’s ‘anti-League march,’ Chhatra League stages counter-march chanting ‘Joy Bangla’ in front of police station

Nearly three hours after the BNP protest march in Muradnagar, Comilla, Chhatra League leaders and activists held a counter-march chanting ‘Joy Bangla’. When the procession reached the gate of Muradnagar police station, police chased it and dispersed it. Thirteen people were arrested during the march.

The incident took place in Muradnagar Sadar on Monday (September 21) evening. The arrested persons were sent to jail through the court on Tuesday (September 22) afternoon, police said.

According to the police, a case has been filed against the detainees under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

The arrested persons are Hasan Bhuiyan (18), Saiful Islam (18), Tanjid (18), Hanif Bhuiyan (19), Mohinul Islam (18), Hridoy Bhuiyan (14), Masud (14), Yasin (16) of Noakandi village in Nabipur West Union; Shahed (18) and Atiq (18) of Chowdhurykandi village; Asif (18) of Bhubanghar Madhyapara; Mobarak (19) of Mochagra village and Tanvir Hossain (14) of Muradnagar Collegepara.

Local sources said that on Monday afternoon, leaders and activists of the Upazila BNP, its branches and associate organizations took out a protest procession at Muradnagar Sadar to protest against the various anarchy, sabotage and misdeeds of the Awami League. The procession circled the main roads and ended at the BNP office.

About three hours later, Chhatra League leaders and activists gathered at the D.R. Government High School grounds. Later, a procession was taken out from there with the slogan ‘Joy Bangla’. When the procession reached the gate of Muradnagar police station, the police chased it and dispersed it.

Local sources claim that about 60 to 70 more people in the procession fled during the police chase. However, Muradnagar police station claims that 13 people were arrested after they gathered at the D.R. Government High School grounds for the procession.

Muradnagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Anwar Hossain Chowdhury said a case has been filed against the detainees under the Anti-Terrorism Act. They were sent to jail through a court on Tuesday afternoon.
