After Raojan, miscreants set fire to 7 Hindu homes in Lakshmipur in two days

After the incident of setting fire to minority homes with a stick from outside in Raozan, seven homes belonging to the minority Hindu community were set on fire late at night in Chandraganj police station area of ​​Lakshmipur. Various belongings inside the houses were damaged by the fire.

The arson incidents took place on Thursday and Friday night, January 15, at Kamarbari in Deopara village, adjacent to the market under Chandraganj police station, and Thakurbari in Boro Ballabhpur village of Hazirpara union.

This incident has spread extreme panic among minority families.

According to local sources, unidentified miscreants set fire to various items including papos kept inside the collapsible gate of the house of a worker in Deopara village, adjacent to Chandraganj market, late on Thursday night. The victims include Chandan Karmakar, Rakhal Karmakar, Shankar Karmakar, Khokon Karmakar and Dilip Karmakar.

The people of the house, sensing the fire, quickly poured water on it and extinguished it.

The next day, at around 3 am on Friday, Bidhan Thakur’s house in Bora Ballabhpur village of Hazirpara union was set on fire by pouring petrol inside and on a pile of wood in front of the house. When the people in the house started screaming, the neighbors rushed to control the fire.

Chandraganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Morshed Alam confirmed the incident and said that unidentified miscreants set the arson fire with the aim of creating panic among the minorities. Police have inspected the scene and efforts are underway to identify and arrest those involved.

Meanwhile, Lakshmipur-3 Sadar constituency MP candidate and BNP Joint Secretary General Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie and Jamaat-nominated MP candidate Dr. Rezaul Karim visited the scene. They said that such subversive activities are being carried out to create fear in the public ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections.

They demanded the immediate arrest of those involved in the incident and further strengthening of law enforcement operations.
