Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has claimed that the Awami League government has made unnecessary expenses on the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, Karnaphuli Tunnel and Padma Bridge projects. According to him, better things could have been done if these expenses had not been incurred.
He made these remarks at a view-exchange meeting with police officers at the Prime Minister’s Office in Tejgaon in the capital on the occasion of National Police Week-2026 today, Monday, May 11.
At this time, Tarique Rahman urged the police not to view corruption and terrorism based on political identity, saying that the government wants to give the police force a form that is truly people-friendly. The police administration is the mirror of the government. Consider the incidents of corruption and terrorism as individuals, not political identities.
He said that if the law enforcement agencies make proper efforts, the country will take a step forward on the path to building a prosperous, self-reliant, safe, humane Bangladesh.
Tarique Rahman said, “Police members need to be multi-skilled. The mentality of the police to work anywhere is essential. Do not compromise on professionalism.”
Honesty, talent and efficiency will be the main principles for recruitment, transfer or promotion of the police force. How the people see or evaluate the government largely depends on the role of the police. Therefore, the members of the force must instill the qualities of humanity, said the Prime Minister.
The government will implement the July Charter to the letter, he said.
At that time, Tarique Rahman said about the various development projects of the Awami League government, saying that if unnecessary expenses were not incurred on the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, Karnaphuli Tunnel, and Padma Bridge, better things could have been done in all areas.
