There have been allegations of illegal occupation of the historic ‘Dainik Banglar Bani’ building, founded by the head of the Bangladesh Liberation Force (BLF), valiant freedom fighter and martyr of August 15, Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni.
It is known that this memorable office, located at Holding No. 81 in Motijheel in the capital, has been under the control of BNP and the People’s Rights Council leaders since the political upheaval of August 5, 2024.
According to information received, a group led by Nurul Haque Nur, including Mohsin Reza, leader of the People’s Rights Council, occupied the building. After occupying it, all the goods and equipment from the ground floor to the third floor of the building were looted and taken away.
Currently, they have complete control of the building.
On the other hand, a restaurant named ‘Panshi’ has been built on the first and second floors of the back of this historic building.
According to local sources, this restaurant is being run under the direct leadership of BNP leader Sunny Sarwar.
The seizure of a historical structure associated with the country’s liberation war for political reasons, looting of property, and use for commercial purposes has sparked a storm of condemnation.
Conscious circles and locals claim that such illegal occupation of historical monuments and resources through political influence is a gross violation of law and morality.
Demands are being made for an immediate, impartial and fair investigation to identify those involved in this looting and occupation and take strict legal action.
