An auto-rickshaw trader was allegedly summoned to Feni’s Chhagalnaiya by a group of men, tied up his hands and feet, tortured him overnight, and threatened to kill him, demanding a ransom of Tk 2 million.

At that time, there were allegations of looting 850,000 taka from the businessman’s shop and another 40,000 taka that was with him.

The businessman escaped with his life after a scuffle with one of the kidnappers when he tried to get the money early Friday morning.

The victim, Nizam Uddin, filed a case with the police station on Saturday. Khokon Ahmed, son of Abu Bakkar Siddique of Daulatpur village under Adarsh Sadar police station in Comilla, and his accomplice have been named as accused in the case.

The incident took place on the second floor of Lucky Bhavan in West Thanapara, Chagalnaiya Municipality, at around 7 pm on October 15, according to the case report and the victim’s statement.

The kidnapped Nizam Uddin is a resident of Uttar Kuhuma village in Chagalnaiya. He is the son of Abul Kashem and the owner of Sata Motors in Chagalnaiya Bazar.

Nizam Uddin alleged that Khokon Ahmed lives in a rented house in Lalpole, Feni. He often bought CNG-powered autorickshaws from his shop. About two weeks ago, Khokon told him that a woman from Chhagalnaiya Thanapara would buy three CNG autorickshaws. For this, he had to go to the woman’s house and bring the money. However, Nizam did not agree to go to the house and take the money.

According to the complaint, Khokon stayed at Satta Motors from Thursday afternoon to evening to choose three CNG autorickshaws. Later, he forcibly took Nizam to the second floor of Lucky Bhavan. As soon as he entered a room there, a man who had already taken a position caught him and tied his hands and feet, put scotch tape on his face and threatened to kill him with a sharp weapon.

Then a ransom of 2 million taka was demanded from him.

According to the victim, one of the two accused went to the shop early on Friday morning, opened the lock and took Tk 850,000 from the cupboard. At that time, Tk 40,000 in cash was also looted. Later, when the person who had gone to get the money did not return, he got into a fight with the other and fled from there.

Chagalnaiya Police Station OC Mohammad Abu Taher said the matter is being investigated seriously. Efforts are underway to arrest those involved.
