NCP Joint Convener Arrested over Rape of Marma Young Woman

Police have arrested Shaikyaching Marma, the district joint convener of the National Citizens Party (NCP), for raping a Marma girl at a resort in Bandarban.

He was arrested on Friday from his Saini Resort, which he owns, adjacent to Shishu Park in the district town.

Bandarban Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Masud Parvez confirmed the arrest on Saturday, October 17th.

Police said the victim is a resident of the Zamzam Gali area of ​​the city.

The young woman alleged that Shaikyaching had been taking her to the resort for a long time, tempting her with marriage. On Friday, she was also taken to Saini Resort and raped.

At one point in the incident, after hearing the young woman’s screams from inside the resort, visitors and passersby gathered at the nearby children’s park and locals informed the administration and media personnel.

On receiving information, the police reached the spot, rescued the victim and arrested the accused NCP leader Shaikyaching Marma.

Local resident Biplob Chakma alleged that the resort was built without the necessary approval by cutting down mountains and damaging the environment. He said that the resort is being run by using current political influence.

Locals also complain that various criminal activities have been taking place here for a long time under the political umbrella.

Bandarban Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Masud Parvez said a case has been filed against Shaikyaching Marma in this incident. The process of sending the arrested accused to court on Saturday is underway. An investigation into the allegations is underway.
