BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has commented that the rhetoric of not holding elections under the pretext of reform is being propagated. He stated, “In the coming days, the people of Bangladesh will elect those who will carry out reforms in Parliament. Reform is not your responsibility, so do not forget that.” He alleged that conspiracies are being hatched regarding elections under the guise of reform.
Amir Khosru made these remarks while speaking at an iftar and discussion event with journalists at the Chittagong Club in the port city on Friday evening, March 28. He called upon everyone to come forward to fulfill the aspirations of a new Bangladesh and its people.
The BNP leader emphasized that the struggle to restore democracy is not yet over, adding that this struggle will only conclude when power is returned to the people. The sole means to restore people’s sovereignty is through a government elected by their votes. However, he warned that the people of Bangladesh will not accept any conspiratorial attempts to manipulate the election process.
Demanding immediate elections, the influential BNP leader said, “Restore democracy. Restore voting rights. Announce the election schedule promptly. The people of Bangladesh will form Parliament and the government through their elected representatives. They will fulfill the people’s hopes in the coming days.”
He recalled that the BNP and others who were part of the simultaneous movement had pledged to implement a 31-point agenda. Therefore, after the upcoming elections, a national government will implement these reforms. Thus, this task will be carried out by the elected government and Parliament.
