Two leaders of the war criminal organization Jamaat-e-Islami’s Kurigram district branch have been expelled from the organization on charges of attacking students and engaging in unethical financial transactions in Kurigram.

One of the expelled was a Rukun (full member), and the other was a worker. They had been extorting money by holding the administration and various institutions hostage. By instilling fear of mobs, they would extort large sums of money. Now, the covert organization Jamaat has lightened the punishment with a minor penalty to absolve responsibility.

This information was disclosed in a press release signed by Kurigram city Jamaat’s acting secretary, Advocate Tajul Islam, on Saturday, May 3.

The expelled individuals are—Jamaat’s Rukun Zahedul Islam Jewel and worker Raju Ahmed. Both were serving as responsible leaders of Kurigram city branch.

The press release stated that an investigation was conducted against them for attacking students during protests against Kurigram Collectorate School and College Principal Harun-ur-Rashid and for extortion in the name of various social activities.

Following the publication of a news report on social media on April 13 titled “Some workers identifying as Jamaat members attack students to protect homosexual Harun,” an investigation committee was formed.

Evidence of Zahedul and Raju’s involvement was found in the investigation, and due to their violation of Jamaat’s discipline and ethics, the decision to expel them was made in the district working committee meeting on May 1.

The party stated that the accused attempted to gain financial benefits by exerting influence over the administration and various institutions and extorted money by instilling fear of mobs. This strict decision was taken as their actions tarnished the organization’s image.
