Former MP Kamal quits BNP after announcing nomination of ‘Hindu’ Nitai Roy

Former MP from Magura-2 constituency Kazi Salimul Haque Kamal has announced his departure from BNP politics out of anger and pride over the party’s decision to go to the center without valuing the emotions and opinions of Trinamool leaders and activists.

He is appreciated by the grassroots as a dedicated, dedicated and ideological leader of the BNP. His supporters have filed nomination papers as independent candidates for this seat.

He said that the attempt to rehabilitate controversial people by excluding the sacrificed and tested leaders is weakening the party ideologically, saying that this will weaken the foundation of BNP in the future. He also expressed fear that a section of religious voters may lean towards Jamaat-e-Islami due to the nomination of a ‘Hindu’ candidate.

It is worth noting that BNP has nominated Nitai Roy Chowdhury in his place for this seat.

The Trinamool BNP has been disappointed by the announcement of BNP rebel candidate and former MP Kazi Salimul Haque Kamal’s retirement from the election and active politics in Magura-2 constituency.

He announced this decision in a post on his verified Facebook page on Saturday morning. Kamal is the former president of the district BNP.

In a Facebook post, Kazi Salimul Haque Kamal mentioned that he will not participate in any more elections due to the long 7 years of imprisonment, political neglect and extreme suffering of his family. He also said that he wants to spend the rest of his life in peace with his family.

However, his supporters have already submitted his nomination papers as an independent candidate in the Magura-2 constituency.

In a Facebook status, he recalled that he had been away from politics since 2008. He was imprisoned in a ‘false case’ in 2017. He was released from prison on August 22nd after the government was overthrown in the July riots last year. He also mentioned that the love and passion of the leaders and activists deeply moved him.

He said that he has been to Magura only four times in the last 16 months after his release. Each time, he has seen love in the eyes of the leaders and activists as well as long-standing suffering and pain. He claimed that for the past 16 years, the sacrificed leaders and activists of Magura have held on to the BNP flag despite facing lawsuits, attacks, jail and torture.

Questioning the party high command, Kazi Salimul Haque Kamal said that the center is not giving any value to the emotions and opinions of Trinamool leaders and activists. The widespread anger that has arisen in the Trinamool after the announcement of the primary candidate for the Magura-2 constituency for the February 2026 elections is the result of long-term neglect and deprivation.

He claimed that 501 out of 513 responsible leaders of Magura-2 constituency, 18 former chairmen of 19 unions and two former upazila chairmen had opposed the decision in writing. However, the Trinamool’s opinion was not given importance.

In his status, he further said that the attempt to rehabilitate controversial people by excluding the sacrificed and tested leaders is weakening the party ideologically. He also expressed fear that this could shake the party’s foundation in the future.

He also mentioned that there is concern among Trinamool leaders and activists that a section of religious voters may lean towards Jamaat-e-Islami due to the nomination of a Hindu candidate in the current political reality. He said that the main concern of Trinamool was what the party’s position would be if the Awami League returned to the elections in the future.

In the status, Kazi Salimul Haque Kamal said, “The grassroots are the lifeblood of the party. If a unilateral decision is made ignoring thousands of dedicated workers, the party will not become strong but will decay from within. If the field level workers become inactive, the party will have to take responsibility.”

He said that he decided to contest the elections independently under pressure from leaders and activists. However, seeing the party’s current stubborn stance, he has realized that the logic and emotions of the grassroots are worthless.

Finally, citing the family’s personal request, he said that he would not participate in any more elections and was retiring from active politics forever.

Addressing the youth, he said that there are many opportunities to advance in politics. They should not ruin their future with one wrong decision.

It is worth noting that BNP has nominated former minister Advocate Nitai Roy Chowdhury for the Magura-2 constituency, excluding former MP Kazi Salimul Haque Kamal.
