Former Sunamganj District Chhatra League president seeks votes for Jamaat candidate Shishir Monir

Former district Chhatra League president Fazle Rabbi Samran, a son of a controversial family in Sunamganj and accused of selling the maximum number of posts in the Chhatra League committee to Shibir activists, has sparked a new discussion. His close relative, who is based in London, is seeking votes for Advocate Shishir Monir, the symbol of the scales, the candidate for Sunamganj-2 constituency nominated by Jamaat.

He is calling leaders and activists of his party, including Awami League, Chhatra League, Jubo League, Swechchhasebak League, and others in the constituency, including Sunamganj, Sylhet, and Dhaka, to vote for Shishir Monir; some leaders who received the calls alleged this.

It is to be noted that it is alleged that Sarman and his uncle, former MP Dr. Mohammad Sadiq, left the country with the help of Shishir Monir.

Shishir Monir’s father, Mukit Monir, a notorious Razakar of the Haor region, was killed by the brave freedom fighters of the Bengal Regiment in 1971 at the house of his grandfather, Sarman Monowar Ali. However, Sarman, who was seeking votes for that Shishir, posted on social media yesterday that he had been given the responsibility of the Sunamganj District Jubo League.

The party’s dedicated leaders and activists expressed their anger over the controversial family that has been supporting Jamaat-Shibir for the past 17 years, sinking the Awami League, getting the Jubo League’s responsibility and working for Shishir in the elections. But they are unable to say anything publicly for fear of the Razakar son Shishir Monir.

The heroic freedom fighters and Awami League leaders and activists of Dirai-Shalla said that the 1971 war criminals Khalek, Mukit Monir, Elim Uddin, and Sobhan took refuge in the house of the doctor, Samran’s grandfather Monowar Ali. Shishir is the son of Razakar Mukit Monir and the nephew of Razakar Khalek-Sobhan. At that time, Khalek and Mukit Razakar took a stand against the heroic freedom fighters. Upon receiving the news, the freedom fighters conducted a raid on Mukit Monir’s house. Then Samran’s grandfather Monowar Ali came out and stopped the freedom fighters.

At that time, when the Razakars tried to attack the brave freedom fighters, Samran’s grandfather Monowar Ali was killed by the freedom fighters in the Razakars’ house. These incidents are mentioned in the books ‘Sunamganj in the Liberation War’ by Advocate Ali Yunus, ‘Bloody Seventy’ by Advocate Bazlul Majid Chowdhury Khasru, and ‘Sunamganj in the Liberation War: Genocide and Others’ by Abu Sufian.

It is known that the Awami League formed the government in 2008 and started the trial of war criminals. When the case was filed against Mukit Monir and the Razakars, Advocate Shahana Akhter, the former president of the Women’s Awami League and a reserved seat member of parliament, obstructed the case in various ways. The chief investigation officer of the war crimes case, former IGP Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, informed the Awami League in writing about the obstruction and mentioned the details in the CD of the war crimes case.

Yet, by managing the Awami League’s unprincipled circle, Samran, his mother and family enjoyed all the privileges of the Awami League and protected war criminals and their families. After August 5, Samran and his family are now receiving the reward for this.

It is learned that Smaran, his uncle Dr. Mohammad Sadiq, aunt Jasmine Sadiq and many other family members took shelter in Shishir Monir’s house. Shishir later sent Smaran and Sadiq out of the country. Workers said that Smaran was made a show cause in a public case by using Shishir Monir so that he could take advantage of Awami League’s return to politics.

Local activists said that Samran, who is currently in the UK, is publicly retaliating. He is working for Shishir Monir. At the same time, he has started trying to reorganize the Jubo League with Jamaat-style workers, excluding the ideological and dedicated workers of the Awami League. He has started working with the responsibility of the Jubo League especially to work for Shishir.

Several people from the Dirai-Shallar Awami family said that they are calling many people to vote for Jamaat leader Shishir Monir. Those who could not call are being informed to vote through the callers.

Dirai Upazila Chhatra Dal president and freedom fighter son Sumon said, the descendants of the Razakars have now relied on the Awami League. And the people of the Awami League who support the Razakars are seeking votes for Jamaat. However, there is also a heroic freedom fighter of the BNP in the election field. The people of Dirai Shalla will repay this through votes. They will reject the descendants of the Razakars.

A senior leader of Sunamganj District Jubo League, who did not want to be named, said that Smaran took charge of Jubo League while sitting in London to support Shishir Monir. He called many people and asked them to vote for Daripalla, promising them that they would get a position if they worked for Daripalla.

He further said, “This family has taken all the benefits of the party for the last 17 years and has protected the Razakars and their descendants. Now they are again openly seeking votes for the Razakars’ sons.”
