India Hopes for Comeback Despite Struggles in Melbourne

India seemed on course for a decent finish on Day 2 of the Melbourne Test, but a late collapse left them reeling. From 153/2, they slipped to 159/5 within five overs, putting pressure on the visitors. All-rounder Washington Sundar acknowledged the setback but expressed optimism about a recovery.

Replying to Australia’s imposing 474, India ended the day at 164/5, with Ravindra Jadeja (4*) and Rishabh Pant (6*) at the crease. Sundar, who hasn’t yet batted, addressed the media after the day’s play.

“We’re not in a good position and can’t guarantee putting up a big score,” Sundar admitted. “But we’re not afraid. We’ll take the field on Saturday with the intent to fight. The dressing room atmosphere is very positive. There’s still a lot of cricket left in this match, and we’ll try to make a comeback as a team.”

Sundar, expected to bat early on Saturday, understands the responsibility on him. “The team expects me to perform well in all three aspects of the game. It’s a fantastic opportunity for me,” he said.

He appeared unfazed by the pitch conditions. “The pitch was a bit soft on the first day because there wasn’t much sun. It dried up significantly on the second day and played better. We didn’t bat poorly. I believe the surface will remain good for batting until Day 4, with no significant changes. The next two days could be very exciting,” Sundar added.
