Islami Andolan Bangladesh Leader Faizul Karim Says: ‘We Were on the Streets in July; BNP and Jamaat Were Not’

Senior Nayeb-e-Amir of the Islamic Movement of Bangladesh (IABA), Mufti Syed Muhammad Faizul Karim, has claimed that his party’s leaders and activists were active on the streets since the beginning of the July movement. At the same time, he alleged that BNP and Jamaat were not in the movement at that time; however, after the movement was successful, various parties are claiming their own credit.

He made these remarks while addressing the chief guest at a rally organized by the Islami Andolan Bangladesh (IAB) in front of Ashwini Kumar Hall on Sadar Road in Barisal city on Wednesday afternoon, August 5.

Faizul Karim said that the Islamic Movement is the only political party that has protested directly on the streets without making secret agreements or agreements with anyone.

He said that while others had alternative paths, their party did not have that opportunity.

He also questioned the role of BNP and Jamaat in the July Movement.

He claimed that there was no visible participation or statement from the two parties during the movement. He also mentioned that Tarique Rahman was not in the country at that time.

He also mentioned Shafiqul Alam, who is associated with the National Citizens Party (NCP), and said that before the July Movement, the people of the country did not know him well.

The leader of the Islamic Movement also criticized various policies of the current government at the rally.

He alleged that the prices of oil, gas and electricity have increased since the government came to power. Questioning the Prime Minister on this matter, he said that the government was not put in power to cause hardship to the people.

Faizul Karim also highlighted the recent incidents of clashes and tension in various educational institutions in the country.

He said that political disputes should be resolved in parliament, not in academic institutions. He also commented that incidents such as forcing students to leave the halls or campuses contradict the spirit of the July Movement.

Addressing the government, he also warned that not only assurances but effective steps are needed to solve the people’s problems. Otherwise, the people’s silence will be broken and the situation may take a different turn.

At the same time, he said that his party will continue its movement if injustice, disappearances, murders, or human rights violations occur.

Earlier, the rally was organized by the Barisal Metropolitan Branch of the Islamic Movement Bangladesh. It was presided over by the President of the Metropolitan Branch, Professor Muhammad Lokman Hakim.

After the rally, a mass procession was taken out in the city under the leadership of Faizul Karim. The procession circled various important roads of the city and ended in front of Ashwini Kumar Hall.
