The crowd mobbed the representatives of Dainik Sangram, the local online media of the clandestine organization One TV, and the district Jamaat’s Rokon Anwar Hossain while they were extorting money from sand and stone traders at Chalban Point in Sunamganj.

The incident took place on Friday night at Chalban Point in Bishwambharpur Upazila of Sunamganj. Anwar Hossain Shalla is the son of Shamsu Mia of Ujangaon, also known as Chorergaon, in the Upazila.

It is known that Anwar Hossain lived in the mess of the Islamic Foundation adjacent to Madaniya Madrasa in Sunamganj city. At that time, he used to move around introducing himself as close to Awami League leaders. After the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, he came out as himself. Later, it was learned that he was in the position of Rokon of Jamaat.

Since then, he and his brother, Star News district correspondent and Shibir leader Amir Hossain, have been extorting money in various ways. Amir Hossain was arrested a few months ago while collecting money from the Jadukata River and an audio of him went viral.

Local journalists said that the two brothers suddenly came to the district town using journalist ID cards and are carrying out reckless extortion. This extortion syndicate is led by the leader of the underground organization, Shahid Noor.

Even after August 5, they are taking businessmen, politicians, government employees and various professionals hostage under the label of fascists and extorting them in various ways, including extorting privileges. They are still extorting by taking administration officials hostage. They are extorting from various sectors including Balumahal, Patharmahal, Jalmahal every day.

It is an open secret that during the Awami League era, the head of this force, Shahid Noor, used to extort money from onion and sugar syndicates at the border.

A senior journalist involved in BNP politics, who did not wish to be named, said, “The number of Jamaat journalists has increased after August 5. They are freely moving around various government offices and taking advantage of them in various ways. They are taking advantage by taking officials hostage.”

They are organizing and doing these things and are also extorting money. They are also conspiring against the government. Moreover, they are conspiring to create divisions within our party in various ways.

The journalist also said that Jamaat officials Anwar and Amir Hossain are collecting donations from various sources. Amir was caught extorting money in Tahirpur a few months ago, and now his younger brother Anwar Hossain, a representative of Sangram, has also been caught.

A Chhatra Dal leader from Lalpur area said, Anwar Hossain was caught by the mob last Thursday while extorting money and was beaten severely. Later, we found out that he is a Jamaat member. Jamaat is not only extorting money in the name of journalism in Sunamganj, they are also regularly extorting money in Balu and Pathar Mahala.

“They have brought Anwar and Amir into the field to carry out this extortion freely. They are themselves extorting and conspiring by opening the media,” he said.
