Former Narayanganj City Corporation Mayor Dr. Selina Hayat Ivy was shaken by the slogan ‘Joy Bangla’ as she left the court after appearing in the murder case. After appearing in the court of Narayanganj District and Sessions Judge Abu Shamim Azad on Tuesday afternoon and renewing her bail, she commented, “Joy Bangla cannot be suppressed.”

According to the incident report, during the violence in July 2024 (July 20), rickshaw puller Tuhin was shot dead at Shimrail in Siddhirganj on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway. Later in September, the wife of the deceased filed a murder case with Siddhirganj Police Station as the plaintiff. In this, former MP from Narayanganj-4 constituency Shamim Osman was made the main accused and former Mayor Ivy was made the 11th accused. A total of 99 people, including former MPs Golam Dastagir Gazi, Kaiser Hasnat, Nazrul Islam Babu, and 300 unknown people, are also accused in the case.

Selina Hayat Ivy, who was already on bail from the High Court, appeared in the lower court on Tuesday for the final report hearing. At the hearing, Ivy’s lawyer, Advocate Awlad Hossain, said that although the police submitted a final report in an explosive manner after completing the investigation of the case, the public prosecutor (PP) had submitted a motion to obstruct the trial process intentionally. The accused claimed that it was illegal and applied for Ivy’s permanent bail, but the judge granted it.

After being granted bail again in the legal battle, Ivy was surrounded by supporters as she left the court premises. Before getting into the car, she raised the slogan ‘Joy Bangla’ in a strong voice. Immediately, the party leaders and activists present also chanted slogans in unison. Ivy Rahman left the court premises amidst the loud slogans of “Joy Bangla” of the synonyms.
