Jubo League Leader Hacked to Death and His Tendons Cut Over Political Rivalry in Bhairab

Miscreants brutally murdered a local Jubo League leader named Bhairabe Al Amin (40) in Kishoreganj by hacking him with a sharp weapon and cutting his leg veins.

The attack took place in the Tinpatti area of ​​the city on Sunday, August 23rd, at around 12:00 am. He was rescued in critical condition and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors on duty declared him dead at around 3:00 am.

Based on the location and nature of the murder, it is believed in the local political arena that Jamaat-Shibir cadres may have committed the murder due to political disputes.

The deceased, Al Amin, was the general secretary of Bhairab Municipality Jubo League. In addition to his political credentials, he was a former councilor of Ward No. 1 of Bhairab Municipality and a former director of the Bhairab Chamber of Commerce and Industries.

Al Amin, a fertilizer trader by profession, owns a residential hotel called ‘Riverview’ in Bhairab Bazar.

According to family sources, Al Amin is the son of Jasim Uddin of Arai Bepari Bari in the city. This leader, who is actively involved in Jubo League politics, has been facing multiple cases after the political upheaval on August 5, 2024. He was arrested and imprisoned by the police twice, but is currently out on bail.

However, since the political changes, he had been living somewhat in hiding and for several years, instead of living in his ancestral home, he had been living in a rented house in the Ranibazar area of ​​the city with his wife and children.

On the day of the incident, Al Amin was staying at the Riverview Hotel he owned at around 11:30 pm. He left for home on a motorcycle at around 11:50 pm. After entering the road to his home and going a short distance, Jamaat-Shibir terrorists surrounded him. He was then hacked and injured indiscriminately.

The attack left him with multiple deep wounds to his head and severe bleeding from a cut in his leg.

Local people rescued him and first took him to a private hospital. Later, he was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Doctors declared him dead after reaching there around 3 am.

Some local youths, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that the road leading to Al Amin’s house is quite deserted at night. They heard screams and saw some people leaving. Al Amin was lying on the road in a bloody state. His head and face were red with blood. As a result, he was not recognized at first.

Judging by the way the veins in the legs were cut, it is clear that this is the work of Jamaat-Shibir, said the youth.

Al Amin’s wife, Tania Khanam, said she last spoke to her husband at around 11:40 p.m. Al Amin was at the hotel at the time and said he would be home for dinner in five minutes. She could not make out who was behind the murder.
