Load-Shedding to Begin at 6am, BUET to Remain Without Power Five Times a Day

Due to power shortage, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) has temporarily scheduled five load shedding sessions a day. Each session will be for one hour, for a total of five hours.

An emergency notification in this regard was issued by the university’s Chief Engineer’s Office on Sunday (August 23) after Dhaka Power Distribution Company Limited (DPDC) informed the BUET administration about the power shortage.

According to the notification, load shedding will take place from 6 am to 7 am, 10 am to 11 am, 2 pm to 3 pm, 12 pm to 1 am and 3 pm to 4 am. This means that the power supply will be cut off for a total of five hours in five phases in 24 hours.

However, BUET authorities said that they are trying to take measures within their capabilities to avoid load shedding. It will not be possible to ensure power supply to all the university’s facilities through their own generators at the scheduled time. As a result, there may be temporary disruptions in power supply to some facilities.

BUET Chief Engineer Dr. AKM Jahangir Alam said, ‘We issued the notice this afternoon. We are trying to avoid load shedding. The moment DPDC can resolve the issue, the power supply will be normal.’

He said that if the power supply situation improves, there will be no need for scheduled load shedding. However, he could not give a specific time frame for how long the current schedule will remain in effect.

In a statement, BUET requested all concerned to be careful in using electricity during load shedding and cooperate with the university administration.
