DHAKA, Bangladesh (Nov. 22, 2024) — Hundreds of demonstrators gathered Friday outside the Daily Star headquarters in Karwan Bazar following Jummah prayers, accusing the newspaper and *Prothom Alo* of aiding “Indian aggression†against Bangladesh.
Under the banner of an organization called “Bangladesher Janogon” (The People of Bangladesh), the protesters alleged that the media outlets supported narratives favoring Indian interests and attempted to portray devout Muslims as extremists.
Ahead of the demonstration, a large contingent of law enforcement personnel was stationed outside the offices of *The Daily Star* and *Prothom Alo* to maintain order.
Protesters accused the media outlets of being complicit in Indian influence and criticized their role in allegedly spreading biased narratives against Islamic values.
The protest included a congregational prayer outside the Daily Star office, followed by a public sermon delivered over loudspeakers. Speakers emphasized the role of youth in the country’s resurgence, with one declaring, “The final victory will come through the sacrifice of our youth, Inshallah. The nation will rise again with their strength.â€
The protest also saw participation from leaders of Ganodhikar Parishad, led by Tarek, who marched to the scene with banners condemning Indian interference. Their banner carried a provocative slogan: *“To Resist Indian Aggression, Prothom Alo and Daily Star Feast on Sacrificial Cattle.â€*
This gathering is the latest in a series of protests reflecting rising tensions over perceived foreign influence and its portrayal in local media. Both *The Daily Star* and *Prothom Alo* have yet to release official statements regarding the accusations.
The demonstration underscores the growing public sensitivity surrounding national sovereignty and the role of influential media in shaping public discourse.
