Rashed Khan, former general secretary of the People’s Rights Council and currently political assistant to Tarique Rahman, who is taking his political career to a stronger position day by day by making strong statements against Jamaat-Shibir, BNP activists claim, was once a ‘sworn companion of the Chhatra Shibir’, said Tarique Reza, organizing secretary of the National Citizen Party (NCP).

He made this allegation in a post on his Facebook ID on Sunday night, October 25th.

In a Facebook post, NCP leader Tarek Reza wrote, Rashed Khan was once a sworn companion of DU’s (Dhaka University) Surya Sen Hall student camp. After contesting the GS post in the DUCSU elections, Shibir asked him to step down for someone else, so he left the organization (camp). After that, he became more Catholic than the Pope. (This syndrome of former Shibirs is nothing new).

He wrote, if I tell you an incident, the matter will be clearer. On the morning of the day the news of Abrar Fahad’s murder became known, DU student rights leaders Rashed Khan and Nurul Haque called Nur and informed him about organizing a program. Nur’s brother was a bit skeptical, but asked him to make a thoughtful decision after researching the information. On the other hand, Rashed Khan objected. He feared that Abrar Fahad might be Shibir, and in that case organizing a program for him would be detrimental (an attempt to hide the identity of Shibir).

Tarek Reza wrote that when the program was announced without his (Rashed’s) advice, he called a leader and said, ‘If you don’t listen, there is no need to form a student rights council, we will not come with us from tomorrow.’ However, seeing the spontaneous participation of the students in the program, it was Rashed Khan who finally came.

Earlier, in a post on his Facebook page, Rashed Khan claimed that NCP Senior Joint Member Secretary Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan had gone to the house of current Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed to join the BNP.

Rashed Khan also commented on the NCP’s seat deal in the post. He claimed that about a dozen top NCP leaders used to go and sit at Salahuddin Ahmed’s house in the hope of getting more seats. However, BNP did not agree to give up more than four seats to NCP. Due to this, NCP joined the Jamaat-e-Islami alliance to get more seats and election expenses.

He called the NCP’s politics ‘opportunistic politics of long live’. He claimed that the NCP has started the program demanding the resignation of the Home Minister as a strategy to gain some special benefits or to put pressure on the BNP on the advice of Jamaat.
