Shanto returns to Asian Games T20 squad

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced a strong 15-member squad for the 20th Asian Games to be held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. Nazmul Hossain Shanto has returned to Bangladesh’s T20 team through this tournament.

Former T20 captain Shanto last represented Bangladesh in this format against the United Arab Emirates in Sharjah in May 2025. He was then dropped from the team and was out of the T20 team for over a year.

Regular T20 captain Liton Das will lead the team, while Towhid Hridoy has been made vice-captain.

Pacer Mustafizur Rahman, who has been out of competitive cricket since last July, is also returning to the field through this tournament.

The team has several familiar faces like Tanjim Hasan Tamim, Parvez Hossain Emon and Mosaddek Hossain. On the other hand, the bowling attack includes Rishad Hossain, Shariful Islam and Hasan Mahmud.

India has already announced a strong squad for the Asiad with Shreyas Iyer, Jasprit Bumrah, Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Abhishek Sharma. On the other hand, Pakistan’s team has established players like Sahibzada Farhan and Abrar Ahmed.

After winning gold at the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games, Bangladesh, who won bronze in 2014 and 2022, will now compete directly in the quarter-finals.
They will face the winner of Group ‘B’ (Hong Kong, Malaysia and Oman) on September 29.
