Teen Gang Rampage in Mohammadpur: 6 Seriously Injured in Frenzied Attack

Six people were seriously injured in an attack by members of a teen gang in Mohammadpur, Dhaka. One victim had to be admitted to the ICU, while three others are receiving treatment at the National Institute of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation (Pangu Hospital).

The incident occurred around 2 AM on Wednesday at house No. 361/2 in the Zafrabad area. Locals said that after several people were initially detained on “suspicion of robbery,” members of a teen gang arrived and launched a frenzied attack with sharp weapons.

Farzana Akter Eti, a relative of one of the victims, said four “robbers” had entered her uncle’s house. Relatives and neighbors gathered and managed to catch three of them.

“One escaped and called 10–12 more gang members. They arrived with machetes, cleavers, and knives and attacked us,” Farzana said.

She reported that six seriously injured individuals were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital that night. One was later transferred to the ICU, while three were admitted to Pangu Hospital. Two others received first aid and were released.

Farzana expressed frustration over the delayed police response. “Despite the police station being nearby, they didn’t arrive for nearly an hour, even after repeated calls. They only came after I personally went to the station,” she alleged.

However, Mohammadpur Police Station’s Investigation Officer Hafizur Rahman offered a different account of the incident.

“This wasn’t a robbery. It was a clash stemming from a previous dispute between two groups. One side attacked first, and the other side later called in more people to retaliate,” he said.

He did not provide details about the nature of the dispute but stated, “The injured are hospitalized, and we are investigating the matter.”

Local residents allege that teen gang members have long been terrorizing the area, with no action taken despite repeated complaints.
