Tourist Access to Padma Bridge and Mawa Ferry Terminal Banned After Sunset

The local administration has declared a complete ban on the movement of tourists in all types of boats after 6 pm in the Shimulia Ghat and Padma Bridge areas of Mawa area of ​​Louhajang upazila of Munshiganj.

Louhajang Upazila Executive Officer Farzana Bobby Mitu announced this decision after inspecting the overall navigation safety situation at Pillars 3, 4 and 5 of the Padma Bridge and Shimulia Ghat from the afternoon to the evening of Wednesday, October 28.

At this time, special warning signboards were installed in the Padma Bridge area to ensure the safety of tourists and the general public.

During the inspection, the overall situation of Shimulia Ghat, the movement of tourists on the river, the safety of boats, and the current condition of the relevant pillar area of ​​the Padma Bridge were observed.

During this time, emphasis was placed on strengthening security measures, maintaining order in the ghat area, and increasing coordination between relevant agencies to avoid unwanted accidents on the river.

It was decided to install warning signboards to ensure the safe movement of tourists, especially in the areas adjacent to the pillars of the Padma Bridge. At the same time, it was decided to take necessary measures to ensure that no tourists can roam the river after 6 pm.

Confirming the matter, Louhajang Upazila Executive Officer Farzana Bobby Mitu said that Mawa and Shimulia Ghat are one of the most important areas for tourism and navigation centered on the Padma River.

This initiative has been taken to ensure the safety of tourists and the general public as well as to maintain order on the river.

Present at the event were Louhajang Upazila Engineering Department (LGED) officer Shantanu Ghosh Sagar, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) officer Neyaz Mohammad Khan, Naval Police Inspector Md. Malek Khasru, Tourist Police Inspector Md. Delwar Hossain, journalist Sheikh Md. Sohel Rana and Shimulia Trawler Ghat leaseholder Md. Kawsar, among others.

Apart from this, other officials and members of the Upazila Administration, Naval Police, Tourist Police and BIWTA participated in the inspection activities.
