Locals have detained Anwar Hossain, the organizer of the central committee of the National Citizens Party (NCP) Sramik Shakti, on charges of spreading defamatory statements against Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and several ministers on Facebook and handed him over to the police. Later, a court ordered him to be sent to jail.

It is learnt that Anwar Hossain was arrested by local people from his house in Sonapur village of Sonapur union in Raipur upazila of Lakshmipur on Saturday night. The NCP has alleged that he was beaten during the arrest.

The arrested Anwar Hossain is the son of Mohammad Ali, a resident of Ward No. 8 of Sonapur Union, and was serving as the organizer of the NCP’s central committee of workers’ power.

On Sunday afternoon, Jubo Dal leader Ruhul Amin Mizhi filed a case with Raipur Police Station under the Penal Code and Cyber ​​Security Act. A total of 8 people, including Anwar Hossain, have been named as accused in the case. Among them, Anwar’s brother Emon Hossain, Rubel Hossain and Dipu have been named. The remaining four are unknown.

The case statement states that Anwar circulated ugly and defamatory comments against Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed and Water Resources Minister Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annie on his Facebook ID. The statement further states that the accused also beat up the plaintiff Jubo Dal leader Ruhul Amin Mizhi.

After filing the case, the court ordered Anwar Hossain to be sent to prison.
