A sensational allegation has been made against a Union Parishad (UP) member in Thakurgaon of attempting to rape a 15-year-old girl by entering the empty house of a daily wage worker under the pretext of providing her with a government benefit, a ‘family card’.

This incident has created intense anger and dissatisfaction across the Chilarang Union, demanding exemplary punishment for the accused.

The incident took place on Monday afternoon, July 27, in Chilarang village, Ward No. 1 of Chilarang Union, Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila. The accused is the current UP member of Ward No. 1, Md. Alauddin (56).

According to the case report, the victim’s father is a daily wage laborer. On Monday morning, he took his sick elder daughter to Dinajpur for treatment. At the same time, his wife went out for work, leaving the younger daughter (15) alone at home.

Around 1:30 pm, UP member Alauddin came to the house on the pretext of giving a family card and asked for a photocopy of the National Identity Card (NID). When the girl gave him the photocopy, he tactfully inquired about who else was in the house. After making sure that no one was home, he entered the house and tried to rape the girl by force.

Despite being unprepared for such a sudden situation, the teenager bravely tried to protect herself by hiding under the bed. Later, seizing the opportunity, she ran out of the house and started screaming. When the local residents rushed to the spot on the teenager’s screams, the accused member managed to escape.

The same day, in the afternoon, the father returned from Dinajpur and found scratches on his daughter’s neck and physical and mental illness. Later, she was rushed to the 250-bed General Hospital, Thakurgaon in critical condition.

The relatives alleged that when local dignitaries tried to talk about the matter after the incident, the accused UP member Alauddin did not offer any compromise or explanation, but instead threatened to visit the victim’s family.

The day after the incident, the victim’s father filed a written complaint with Thakurgaon Sadar Police Station.

Thakurgaon Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Shahjahan Ali said that considering the seriousness of the incident, a case has been registered under the Prevention of Violence against Women and Children Act. The police are continuing the drive to quickly arrest the accused UP member Alauddin and bring him under the law.
