‘You Didn’t See How We Burned Police Stations and Beat Police to Death’: NCP Leader’s Public Confession Sparks Outcry

Jobairul Alam, a central executive member of the National Citizens Party (NCP), has directly accused the Anwara Upazila administration of nepotism.

He made this strong statement targeting the Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) and Officer-in-Charge (OC) at a public meeting organized at the Chatari Chaumuhani Tunnel intersection in Anwara Upazila on Wednesday, August 5, around 5 pm.

The mass rally was organized by the 11-party unity to commemorate the July violence and implement the referendum results, establish democracy, justice, good governance, and people’s rights.

At the public meeting, Jobairul expressed strong anger over the role of the local administration.

While giving his speech, he reminded the administration and said, “We want to question the UNO, we want to question the OC; didn’t you see July 36? How the police stations were burned then? Didn’t you see then, how we beat up the police and made them bleed?”

A video of Jobairul Alam’s speech at the rally quickly went viral on social media. After the 3-minute and 54-second video was published on a Facebook page, Jobairul Alam himself shared it on his personal wall, which is currently being widely discussed and criticized in the local political arena.

The mass meeting was held under the chairmanship of Upazila Jamaat-e-Islami President Abdul Gani. Upazila Jamaat Secretary Mohammad Abul Hasan conducted and moderated the program. Leaders and activists of various levels of 11-party unity including NCP and the local general public were present at the meeting.
