Actress Ajmeri Haque Badhan has played a strong role since the beginning of the July riots last year. She has stood on Facebook and on the streets. When Dr. Yunus came to power, Badhan’s expectations increased. However, seeing the various situations in the country in the past year, Badhan’s dreams were shattered. She is also disappointed with the law and order situation.

In a recent interview with a media outlet, Badhon expressed his disappointment. In it, he recounted the achievements, shortcomings, and disappointments from the Yunus government in a year.

In an interview, Badhan said, mob violence and hatred towards women have increased in the country. People’s dreams about the country have been shattered. Those who were on the streets in July had different issues. I wanted a Bangladesh of equality, rights and justice. From that perspective, it seemed like a historic opportunity. But to be honest, expectations were also high. We are a corrupt country. So doing good work is not easy.

Mob violence, hatred towards women, vandalism of sculptures, destruction of buildings and shrines. Overall, the law and order situation is disappointing. All this is actually shameful and sad. I feel like I have lost the dreams I had, the opportunities I had. The government’s performance has made me uncomfortable. I am disheartened.

Regarding the rise of extremism and discrimination against women in the country, Badhan said, “What I mean by right-wing is those who are extremists or have blind faith in one thing. It’s not that it didn’t exist before. For example, an organization called Hefazat-e-Islam disrespected women, it’s not new. There was a cultural barrier. Maybe it didn’t reach us like this.”

“I don’t accept this at all. I want complete freedom. I want to ensure the rights of every person. I made the revolution with that hope,” he said.
