Workers have walked out of 529 factories in the country’s industrial areas due to worker dissatisfaction. About 987,000 workers in these factories did not join work. The situation has been most affected in Gazipur, Mymensingh, Savar and Ashulia. There have also been incidents of worker dissatisfaction in Mirpur, the DMP area of the capital.
This information was obtained from the calculations made up to 3:30 pm on Sunday, November 1. It includes information on a total of 2,134 factories in the country’s five main industrial zones.
According to the calculations, out of the 529 factories closed due to worker dissatisfaction, 276 are located in Gazipur and Mymensingh areas, 185 in Savar-Ashulia and Jirani areas, and 68 in DMP areas.
The closed factories in the DMP area are in Mirpur. The report does not mention any incidents of workers leaving factories in Narayanganj and Chittagong.
There are a total of 836 factories in Gazipur and Mymensingh regions. Out of these, workers have left 276. 645,360 workers in these factories have not joined work.
Workers walked out of 185 of the 441 factories in the Savar-Ashulia and Jirani areas. 290,205 workers were absent from work in this region.
Workers have left 68 of the 320 factories under the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) area. 51,625 workers have not joined work in these factories. The closed factories are located in Mirpur.
The report also includes information on 197 factories in Narayanganj and 340 in Chittagong. However, no incidents of workers leaving factories or being absent from work in these two industrial areas were mentioned.
The total number of factories in the five industrial zones is reported to be 2,134. Of these, 1,605 factories were open. However, the same report states that 529 factories were closed due to worker dissatisfaction.
The highest number of workers were absent from work in the Gazipur and Mymensingh industrial areas, followed by Savar-Ashulia and Jirani. The situation in these two regions has had the greatest impact on the overall picture of worker dissatisfaction.
There is a risk of disruption to production in industrial areas due to workers leaving factories and being absent from work. In important industrial areas such as Gazipur, Mymensingh, Savar and Ashulia, a large number of workers may not come to work, which could affect production and supply chains.
